This is a practice that has been very successful in its application in the American treatment model. This is provided for families with members who refuse to accept they have an addiction problem or are not willing to admit that they need rehabilitation. A family member or friend will phone us to ask about treatment for the addict. However, they may suggest that although that persons life has become unmanageable and they are powerless over their addiction, he or she is still unwilling to accept help.
At this point we can offer the services of a former addict and fully trained therapists with qualifications in addiction treatment, that can stage an intervention.
An example of this maybe inviting the therapist over for dinner or tea when the addict is present. The family the will give the addict an ultimatum. This being they need to go into rehab or will have to leave the family home.
This suggestion may have been offered before many times but not followed through or it may have resulted in major conflict. However, with the trained experienced person present, this can often be a very successful method of completing the original aim of getting that person help into rehab.
There will weekly reports to the family on how their loved one is doing. There will also be family groups and sessions for the family to attend. This will enable families to interact with others who are going through the same process, or have been through it in the past.
One to one rehabilitation sessions with either a therapist or a clinical psychologist will be provided.
Communicating with the rehab centers directly for reports can be very difficult at times. We will guarantee that you receive weekly update reports so you know how your loved ones are doing.
Family care and support for up to 18 months after the patient has left the rehabilitation clinic can be provided.
Here at Change we believe that the family is important and will always support you through the process.
