A drug addiction centre has welcomed the news that heroin worth tens of thousands of pounds has been seized in the West Midlands.
Police said the 1.5kg stash, thought to be worth £65,000, is the "biggest haul for years". It was due to be sold on the streets of Burton in Staffordshire, the Burton Mail reports.
Founder and chief executive officer of Burton addiction centre Noreen Oliver told the newspaper that it is "good news" that such a large amount of heroin has been seized by police.
She suggested that it could act as an incentive for local people in need of drug addiction therapy to seek support.
"Normally when there's a big seizure the police encourage people to go and get help and to use it as a motivator to get into treatment - and we fully support that," she commented.
Ms Oliver went on to say that individuals in need of drug addiction support need only pick up the phone, after which they can be seen "in a matter of days".
Police have confirmed that a 31-year-old Burton man was being questioned at the town's police station on Monday (February 1st).
Heroin possession can result in a seven year prison sentence, while those convicted of supplying the class A drug can be sentenced to life imprisonment.
