Advertising alcoholic goods should be banned in the UK to tackle the country's rising levels of binge drinking and help cut the number of people likely to suffer from alcohol addiction later in life, it has been suggested.
The British Medical Association has argued that advertising of alcoholic beverages and the use of alcohol brands as sponsors should be brought to an end so as to protect future generations from the threat of alcohol addiction and binge drinking.
The organisation is concerned by the number of young people being taken to hospital as a result of binge drinking, as well as the growing demand for addiction treatment services to deal with problem drinkers.
