A man who successfully received drug addiction support said he was "virtually dead" after a lifetime of substance and alcohol abuse.
Bryn Corbett, who weighed less than 9st at the beginning of his drug addiction treatment programme, said he decided to seek help after watching one of his friends die at the hands of drug addiction, the Burton Mail reports.
The 28-year-old checked himself into the Staffordshire town's addiction centre at the end of 2008 and graduated from his rehabilitation course last year.
Explaining how his drug addiction therapy worked, he told the newspaper that it was difficult to begin with because he had "never listened to anybody or been disciplined before".
"It was hard at the start, I didn't know if I was coming or going," he commented.
"It's like being born again because everything I've ever done in my life, I've been on something."
Mr Corbett is now receiving training in the hope of becoming a fitness instructor and has since moved into a new home.
According to the Office for National Statistics, 2,075 men died in the UK after drug poisoning from both legal and illegal drugs.
