A new drug addiction treatment is being pioneered by The Art of Living group, which claims to have cured the symptoms of thousands of substance abusers.
The organisation, which has a number of camps in the Indian city of Luhiana, said that the Sudarshan Kriya yoga posture is the most successful way of allowing people to recover from drug addiction, The Times of India reports.
At a press conference on Wednesday (August 18th), The Art of Living said it had cured in the region of 8,000 addicts during its sessions.
Group activist Pardeep Choudhary said that the camps were set up because the country's government does not provide enough help to those affected by substance abuse in its facilities.
"In fact, people are afraid of going to these centres," the newspaper reported him as saying.
"On the other hand, we are using other ways to cure the patient. A drug addict does not need any medicine but only mental support."
The Art of Living develops a number of humanitarian projects and has a goal of a "stress-free and violence-free society".
