A man in need of cannabis addiction help in Lancashire is being forced to wear an electronic tag after his addiction got out of control.
Craig Pettifer, from Preston, funded his addiction by selling the drug, although he was discovered by police as his activities increased, the North West Evening Mail reports.
Officers raided his home and discovered cannabis with a street value of £3,000, which led to the order for Mr Pettifer to wear an electronic tag in addition to completing 100 hours of community service.
His case highlights the need for drug users to seek addiction support, as many turn to crime as a means to fund their habit.
According to the newspaper, defence lawyer David Traynor told the court that Mr Pettifer was not a "sophisticated offender" and that he was almost relieved when he was caught by police because he was getting out of his depth.
As part of his 51-week suspended prison sentence, Mr Pettifer is required to enrol on a cannabis rehabilitation programme.
The judge told him that cannabis is a "pernicious drug" and ordered the seizure and destruction of his supplies.
Smoking cannabis can cause irreversible damage to the brain, while experts believe it can also trigger mental illness such as schizophrenia.
