The development of a new drug addiction treatment centre in Newfoundland and Labrador has been put on hold.
Proposed specifically for adults, the construction of the facility, which is expected to be built in Harbour Grace in the east of the province, has been delayed after the government cancelled its request for treatment program proposals from consultants, CBC News reports.
However, health minister Jerome Kennedy said yesterday (August 10th) that a new proposals request will be drafted in the near future, and this will state that more input from consultants is needed.
"One of the reasons we went to an outside consultant in the first place was to ensure that best practices throughout the country would be incorporated into the planning and the management of the new addictions centre in Harbour Grace," the news provider quoted Mr Kennedy as saying.
It is expected that the drug addiction facility will cost $2 million to build.
According to Health Canada, the numbers of people who used cocaine, crack or ecstasy last year is comparable to the levels recorded in 2004.
