An ice cream shop in one corner of the US is helping those who have received drug addiction treatment get back on their feet.
Sandstone Creamery, which has opened in Kennewick, Washington, is offering work opportunities every Sunday for men who have successfully battled against drug and alcohol addictions, kndo.com reports.
The creamery is managed by James Ortega, himself a recovering addict, with men from local outreach group Teen Challenge Organization able to work at the ice cream outlet.
Mr Ortega told the news provider the creamery has helped him maintain his drug addiction recovery by being a "blessing that cuts both ways".
"I feed them a meal and they feed my need to stay clean and sober," he commented.
He met his recruits at a church meeting and donates the creamery's profits to the Teen Challenge Organization home where the men reside.
Davis Margerison, one of those receiving drug addiction support, said working in the ice cream shop allows him to learn about working in the community, being productive and steering clear of drugs.
Ice cream is sometimes used by recovering alcoholics as a means of reducing cravings because of how unpleasant alcohol tastes after eating it.
