Drug addicts in the Nottingham area are to assist local health workers in a bid to improve mental health services, it has been reported.
According to the Nottingham Evening Post, those dependent on drugs will take part in the Stamp out Stigma campaign.
Those involved in the scheme will act as mentors to managers, clinical staff and directors at Notts Healthcare Trust, explaining what support services they need in rehabilitation.
Former service user Sally White, who now runs Substance Misuse Service's programme, told the newspaper the idea came from a workshop for people with drug addictions.
"Someone said they wished they could talk to the managers at the top and tell them about what it's like. So we thought we could set up a mentoring scheme," she explained.
In related news, champion tennis player Andre Agassi has admitted to a former addiction to crystal meth in his new autobiography.
The Association of Tennis Professionals is considering whether to investigate the matter after Agassi confessed to lying to explain a positive result to a drugs test in 1997.
