drug addiction treatment in Florida has received a boost after one hospital in the state expanded its inpatient medical stabilization services for those in need of drug and alcohol addiction support.
A 24-hour service commenced today (March 3rd) at Jackson Hospital, an expansion that was marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday afternoon, wmbb.com reports.
Services are managed by New Vision, a company run by Jackson Hospital and St Louis' SpecialCare Hospital Management Corporation.
SpecialCare executive vice president Tom Millea told the news provider that "humane" services will be provided to those in need of drug addiction help.
"New Vision services treat addiction as a medical problem and redirects patients with our program on their way to stabilization," he explained.
"The services are voluntary and strictly medical, giving patients who wish to recover an opportunity to do so."
New Vision will accept drug or alcohol addiction patients aged 18 and over in addition to individuals experiencing withdrawal symptoms after attempting to give up their substance of choice.
According to the National Household Survey on drug abuse and Addiction, more than 4.6 million adults in the US may be in need of drug addiction therapy.
