A new report has recommended a greater emphasis on the provision of addiction treatment in New Mexico to help tackle problems with gambling.
The New Mexico Compulsive Gambling Council has suggested current rehab center access and availability is not sufficient in the state and more needs to be done to help ensure people are getting the right addiction recovery services should they need them.
Governor Bill Richardson has been sent the report, which is aiming to ensure a single, state-wide fund is established for the provision of rehabilitation services so that all people across the state who may suffer from a gambling addiction have access to the same level of treatment.
"Basically, what the council is suggesting is that there be one governing body that handles problem gambling in New Mexico," observer Jack Brown told Casino Gambling Web.
Introducing such a program could help ensure more people have access to proper addiction recovery services throughout the state and reduce the number of people who could be slipping through the net and fighting a gambling addiction on their own.
gambling addiction has become an increasing problem in many parts of the US over the course of 2009, with the recession believed to be to blame.
Some experts have suggested a growing number of people are becoming addicted to gambling as they try to win a fortune after being made redundant.
