It may not seem the most obvious pastime for a drug addict, but one rehab center in the US is using knitting to help people beat their problem.
According to South Coast Today, the Emerson House residential treatment center for recovering drug addicts is using the therapeutic nature of knitting as a way to help people tackle their addiction.
The scheme also provides a focus and something to occupy the addicts' minds so that they do not spend their time thinking about drugs.
"Fighting with this yarn is like fighting with my addiction," one of the residents told the publication.
Showing the determination needed to battle addiction, another resident says: "I'll keep at this until I've finished and made something I'm proud of."
A growing number of rehab clinics around the world are recognising new methods to help people tackle their addiction problems.
One US prison has been using ancient Chinese medicine as a way to help inmates recover from their addictions, while the Cliffside Malibu Clinic in California uses its setting to allow patients to relax by walking in the surrounding hills.
