A lottery grant is being handed to a drug addiction facility in Devon that specialises in helping families beat the effects of drug abuse.
Plymouth-based Family Matters has received £159,000 from the Big Lottery Fund, which will allow the organisation to provide therapies for both families and individuals, The Herald reports.
Fiona Miller and Charlie Lowe, who manage Family Matters, said the money will go towards its Time4Change scheme, which allows addicts and their loved ones to explore the different aspects of addiction in safe, neutral surroundings.
"When someone has a drug or alcohol problem, not only is their own life difficult but also the rest of the family feel their lives become overwhelmed by the problem," Ms Miller told the newspaper.
"Often families feel very excluded. They don't have anyone to talk to and don't know what's happening."
Ms Miller went on to say that this is the reason why the organisation is striving to provide support to affected family members.
According to Plymouth City Council, the number of people in the south-west in need of drug addiction intervention is 243 per 100,000, which compares with England's average of 237 per 100,000.
