addiction treatment services in Solihull are to be given a major boost thanks to a new injection of funding that could help transform the delivery of addiction rehabilitation in the area.
Solihull Integrated addiction services (SIAS) has been awarded £150,000 from the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse, allowing the organisation to significantly improve and expand its addiction treatment provision, the Birmingham Mail reports.
Welcoming the additional funding, Joanne Mackinnon, chief executive of the Welcome charity, told the newspaper: "It can be daunting for drug users to enter treatment for the first time and if they come into a more welcoming environment with the right people on the front line, then they are more likely to stay in treatment."
The Welcome charity is part of the SIAS and as such will be eligible to access some of the new money.
By providing the extra funding, the number of people able to access rehab clinics and other addiction treatment facilities will be greatly enhanced in the Solihull area.
There are growing concerns that more young people could become involved in substance misuse during the recession, as they struggle to find employment.
In the US, there are already reports of an increase in the number of people seeking addiction recovery services for gambling problems as they try to win their way out of poverty, having lost their job during the downturn.
