A new addiction centre will benefit those on drug addiction programmes when it opens in Toronto in 2012.
This comes after construction firm Carillion won the £157 million contract to build the city's new Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
The project involves the delivery of three state-of-the art buildings, with demolition of the existing drug addiction centre expected to begin early in the new year.
John McDonough, Carillion's chief executive, said he is "delighted" that the addiction healthcare centre will soon enter the construction phase.
"We look forward to working with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health to provide Toronto with a new state-of-the-art healthcare facility," he commented.
Once complete, CAMH will boast a new gateway building, an intergenerational wellness centre and a utilities and parking building.
In addition to its work in Toronto, Carillion is constructing the Sault Area Hospital and Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.
CAMH is the largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital in Canada, combining clinical care with research, health promotion and education.
It not only facilitates addiction recovery in Toronto city, but has premises in Ontario and 32 community locations throughout the province.
